Here is, as promised, the missing link for Super-Charge Your Wellness worksheet.
Last week I said, “I saved the best for last.” The truth, of course, is slightly more complicated than that.
These last two pieces of the health puzzle are both the beginning and the end – they will define and determine, more than anything else, the progress of your wellness journey.
Holding them back was a pure strategic decision on my behalf. I felt that throwing these two into the mix could potentially undermine your progress, and overwhelm you to a point of freeze. Instead, I wanted to give you some food for thought, and enough time to digest the information – I hope I have (at least to a degree) accomplished that.
So what are those missing links?
4. Your commitment level: How much time, effort, money are you willing to invest?
Training a healthy body is challenging enough. Recovering from a lifetime of chronic illness and immobility cranks the concept of training to a whole new level.
You are ready to skip (and keep skipping) that glass of wine, bar of chocolate, or a late night movie? Prepared let go of your couch fix? Great!
How about changing the way you think?
Going beyond the physical well-being, [clickToTweet tweet=”you will have to teach your mind to think like a healthy one.” quote=”you will have to teach your mind to think like a healthy one.” theme=”style1″]
What exactly do I mean by that?
I know for a fact – because I now have been on both sides of the fence, and still slip into sick-body thinking from time to time – that healthy people and those of us who have had chronic illness think differently. I won’t get into too much detail here – I teach classes that are all about that. You have to understand, though, that without changing your mind, fear, body- mistrust, and worry will always be a part of your daily life.
To finish this section I will say this: your weekly yoga class is a great start, but it can get you only this far. Outstanding results require outstanding commitment. Decide on what your dreams and goals are, and commit accordingly.
Me? At my worst, with my health and marriage crumbling, I’ve immersed myself in yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic lifestyle training. What did it cost? Let’s just say quite a bit more than my university degree. Was it worth it? I’ll let you answer that.
5. What is your WHY?
This, perhaps, is the most important question of them all. Figuring out your big “WHY” will be your deal breaker, your driving force, and your secret weapon at times when your will power is wavering, and you feel oh-so-tired from all this tedious self-improvement work.
[clickToTweet tweet=”WHY’s are never about getting healthier, really; they are about what being healthier will allow you to do.” quote=”WHY’s are never about getting healthier, really; they are about what being healthier will allow you to do.” theme=”style1″]
Take some time and paint yourself a picture: what would your life look like when you are as healthy as you want to be? How would you feel? What would you do?
Now, every time the wine and a chocolate bar are a-calling you can revisit your painted picture for inspiration and to re-commit to yourself.
6. Remember that well-being is not a final destination – it is more of a trajectory.
Are you moving forwards or backwards on your health continuum?
Take time to stop, look back, appreciate your successes and examine your failures – after all, they are your best teachers and greatest motivators.
I will finish the Super-Charge Wellness series with this: doors will open the moment you make a decision that poor health simply won’t do. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen this happen, and I know it will happen for you, too. All you have to do is make a decision. Are you ready?
